Filming Day 3

Today was another filming session of the soldiers. Although our video and ancillary texts are very war and politics based, we didn't want to lose sight of the fact that it suppose to be promoting music not controversial messages. With this in mind, we wanted the soldiers to be our band, almost like the help the hero's band (pictured)

We filmed at a local sports field, as it had big mounds across it that looked like trenches. We waited until around 4 o'clock as we wanted the sun to begin to set and we positioned the actors with their backs against the sun, hence the song title "don't look back into the sun". As it was quite a cold afternoon, the actors breathing was exaggerated as their breath was creating a cold, smokey mise en scene against the sunset.

We also wanted to portray the fact that the actors were young boys (exaggerating the message that they shouldn't be soldiers)so we wanted some to film them "being boys". We asked them to run around and mess about like they would normally and this added and extra element to our video.

Our final part of our filming was to get the boys to act out some military training procedures. We wanted them marching, jumping, crawling etc so we could show that the boys were doing these adult diciplined exercises when they should be playing football etc.
